LG Polls: No Imposition of Candidates - Delta State PDP

AHEAD of local government polls in Delta State, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Isoko North chapter has urged all aspirants for different positions to sell themselves to the people as there will be no imposition of candidates.


The party in an enlarged meeting of members during the Salah break hosted by Delta State Commissioner for Housing, Arch. Joseph Ogeh in his country home at Oghara-Iyede, Isoko North Local Government Area of Delta State, resolved that to make the party great before, during and after the local government polls, candidates for councillorship and chairmanship positions must emerge through popular choice.

Chairman of the Party in the area, Prince Godwin Ogorugba informed party faithful that in line with Governor Ifeanyi Okowa's commitment to sustaining a party that has the interest of the people at heart, aspirants for elective positions must be popular among the People.
He asserted, "there will be no imposition of candidates in the forthcoming local government elections, so, the aspirants must emerge based on their popularity and commitment to the development of the area."

"We don't just want to win in the elections, we want our party to be more united and stronger after the elections, our candidates must be known and resourceful," the Chairman said.

The Commissioner for Housing in the State, Arch. Joseph Ogeh, comnended the conveners of the meeting, observing that the Supreme Court judgement that declared Senator Ahmed Markafi group as the authentic PDP, made it possible for members of the party to speak with one voice.
"We have ran a very strong battle and if not for God we wouldn't have been sitting here as a party, because if we had lost the legal battle PDP would have been history.

"What made us victorious is because the process that led to the emergence of Senator Makarfi followed due process and as such the Supreme Court couldn't fault the process adopted by the party at the Port Harcourt Convention.

The Commissioner stressed that the era of impunity is over, adding "if you want to lead your people you must go back home to seek the support of your people. "If you want to be a Councillor and there is no consensus, then the people will decide in a transparent primaries; it is time to take the party back to the people even as we strive to rebuild our party," Arch. Ogeh reiterated.

State Vice Chairman of the PDP, Prince Emman Amgbaduba in his goodwill message, congratulated the people of Isoko North for a wonderful meeting which shows the strength of the party in the area, emphasising that "the era of imposition, era of impunity is over in the party, we must work with popular decisions."

Also speaking, the State Legal Adviser of the Party, Barr. Bernard Odior advised the party at the local government and Ward levels to call regular meetings to internalise the ideology of the party in the areas.

Others who spoke at the meeting commended the leadership of the PDP for towing the line of the people by shunning imposition of candidates.


High point of the meeting was the presentation of identity cards to the thirteen ward chairmen of the party in the area.
