Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State has expressed the
belief that the disputed oil wells between Rivers and Bayelsa belong to his state,
urging the Surveyor-General of the Federation to resolve the boundary dispute
so the matter can be rested.
Speaking at Government House, Port Harcourt, yesterday, when
he played host to the Forum of Surveyor-General of States, the governor said
the sense of brotherhood between the two states had ensured that the dispute
did not get out of hand.
Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wik He said: “I call on
the Surveyor-General of the Federation to help in resolving the dispute between
Rivers State and Bayelsa State. We believe that the oil wells belong to us. “We
are brothers and there is no need for this conflict to linger. Imagine if it
was between two states with no relationship, it would have been worse.”
Earlier, Chairman of the Forum of Surveyors-General of
States, Michael Abiodun, commended the governor for the progress recorded in
the state so far, adding that government “acquired satellite and aerial imagery
of the entire state to enhance development.” Surveyor-General of the
Federation, Ebisintei Awudu, who also spoke, hailed the development strides in
the state, urging the state government to digitise the Rivers State
Surveyor-General’s office to enhance revenue generation.
