Ahead of the 2019 general elections, Delta state House of
Assembly Speaker, Mr. Sheriff Oborevwori, is said to have ‘gratified’ the
Urhobo traditional rulers council with the sum of N10 million to support his
senatorial ambition.
The N10 million ‘gratification’, which is been tagged as a
‘bribe’, Zenzidiary gathered that the said bribe came from the speaker in form
of kolanuts wedge for the traditional rulers when he paid the royal fathers
courtesy visit over the weekend at the palace of Owhorode of Olomu Kingdom,
Ogbon Ogoni Oghoro I, in Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta.
Confiding in one of the online reporter which is not
zenzidiary, a Personal Assistant to one of the traditional rulers disclosed
that “The N10 million from the speaker is like a Greek gift to the monarchs
which came like a rude shock to them has a body language attachment. Of course
the money has a political under tone that will be favourable to the speaker.
The money was for support for the speaker but the royal highnesses know its a
pointer to 2019.” the PA said.
Speaking during the visit, the Delta state House of Assembly
Speaker, Mr. Sheriff Oborevwori, said he decided to seek the prayers and
blessings of the royal fathers to guide him in his new assignment.
“I have come to meet with my fathers, the royal fathers in Urhobo
nation today to seek their prayers and blessings. I thought it wise to do so
because it is part of our culture that a wise child should ask for his father’s
blessings in anything he embarks on. I have also come to introduce myself to my
royal fathers as the new Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly.
“From time to time, I shall be visiting my royal fathers for
their fatherly advice. I also want to say that whatever the Urhobo nation wants
from the Delta State Government for the Urhobo nation to move forward is what I
stand for. You are our fathers and whatever advice you give is what we shall
abide by.
“I decided that in my capacity as the Speaker of the House
of Assembly, I should first celebrate my position with my father’s before I
extend it to kings from other parts of the state. I have come for your prayers
because I am aware that with your prayers I shall succeed.” Oborevwori stated.
Traditional rulers present at the occasion includes the
chairman of Delta Central Traditional Council, HRM Ogbon Ogoni Oghoro I,
Owhorode of Olomu kingdom, the Orodje of Okpe, Ovie of Ughelli, Ovie of
Agbarha, Ovie of Uvwie, Ovie of Oghara, Ovie of Ogor, Ovie of Evwreni, Ovie of
Ughievwen, Ovie of Ijerhe, Ovie of Okparabe, Ovie of Usiefrun among others.
While on the speaker’s
entourage, was a representative of Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, Mr. Festus
Ochonogor (Senior Political Adviser to the Governor), the State chairman of
PDP, Mr. Kingsley Esiso, member representing Ughelli North Constituency II in
the State Assembly, Mr. Oharisi, the member representing Bomadi Constituency,
Mr. Boro Preyor, member representing Burutu II Constituency, Mr. Daniel Yingi,
Mr. Asini, Commissioner for local government and chieftaincy affairs Mr. Bright
Edejewhro Onajefe-Gift, member of Delta State Revenue Board, Mr. Solomon
Ighrakpata and DESOPADEC Commissioner Mr. Amos Itiwhe among others.
Zenzidiary can recall that the house of Assembly members
have vehemently refused to pay their aides who are been owed furniture
allowance and other entitlements for the past one year.
